death of the 500 add

so, it looks like the 500 add is a thing of the past.... oh well, i sucked in those things anyway, and they're probably way -EV.

so, currently i'm focused on the cash game scene. the highlight of todays action was a hand where i limped in with AT of spades under the gun in a 10 handed 2-4NL game. I won a $300 pot with Ace high.. and no, it wasn't a hand where we were all-in preflop. there were no raises preflop, i check raised a guy on the flop and bet the turn hard (i think my turn bet was around $80) and threw out a blocking bet on the river. bets on every street and A high takes it down.

tuesday night taco?

i know i said i'd focus on the 500 adds this week.. the first one was tonight, and i at least played in it.. but focus? nah... i was playing in 2 tournaments at once (one being the 500 add and the other being a pointless freeroll), and trying to format the hand history below.. somehow i got confused as to which tournament was which, and i was playing the 500 add as if it were the freeroll and vice versa... thinking back, it's pretty funny that i got as far as i did. I ended up taking 10th out of 23 in the 500 add. The last hand I got it all in with AK vs AQ on a K high flop. I would have been in great shape to make a run at first with an above average stack had i won, but the broadway straight for AQ ended up hitting and sending me home.

so.. the comedy of the night was in the cash games that i was playing during the 30 mins leading up to the tournament. I was playing in a $200 NL game and a couple $100 NL games. One of them had become 2 or 3 handed, and i was playing aggro.. but nothing crazy. Anyway, the player featured in the 2 hands below had been calling a lot of my preflop raises when he was on the bb and i was on the button. He kept leading into me on the pot and i kept repoping him with nothing to take it down... I guess he got frustrated.. and then after the first hand below he blew his top.

** side note.. i like how it timestamps all the decisions. I usually take a lot of time to decide calls and bets in cash games.. looking back, i'm a lil surprised by my insta-calls on these 2 hands... especially the 77.

history of the 500 add

i just realized i have somewhat of a history with tournaments where 500 is added to the prize pool. when i first started playing online poker a few years ago, ub had a week where they added 500 to their nightly $5 tournament.
i was able to play in 3 of the tournaments that week. each had a field of between 800 to just over 1,000 players. the first one i played in i got 2nd out of around 800, the next day i got 1st out of a field of 1,000+, and then the following day, i got 3rd in one with a field of around 900. I cleared just under 3k that week, with $15 invested.. and you'll be f'n gd'd right desert tacos were on berg all 3 nights.

a week with no tacos

not only did i not win a 500 or 1k add this week, i didn't even come close. 2 of the 500's i missed because i was out and about.. and my play in the 1k add was one of the most pathetic games i've played this year.. placing me 30 out of 31.

despite the horrible play and the lack of focus on the 500... the week was still pretty juicy. I missed one of the 500 add tournaments because i was in a 1-2NL and 2-4NL cash game where a guy was determined to dump me the 1.6k he had at the table. I'm not sure what happened, i think i got a phone call or something.. but I had to sit out for a few minutes... anyway, when i came back, he had left. i still pulled just under 400 off the guy in a matter of 50 mins or so, so I don't have any regrets about the 500 add slipping my mind at the time.

i hope to get my focus back for this week of taco tournaments, and continue to play the 200 and 400 buyin NL games. i'm hungry for tacos, and i'll be gd'd if i don't money in a couple this week.

1k taco cherry

i broke my dry spell in the 1k add (i had played in 1 of these before and didn't money).. nothing too impressive, but i really put myself in a position to win 1st... but i'll take a 3r.

24 peeps, $33 and a 3rd for berg makes $344 worth of taco taco taco

*update on the last hand. we were down to 3 people, i had around 5.5k after losing a decent size pot to a preflop reraise, 2nd had 7k and 1st had around 12k. blinds were 3/600, on the smallblind i pushed with A6spades and got called by a hand like K8o or something. Even with how bad the play is at this site, this call surprised me. But hey, i'll take 60/40 situations like this to get in good shape for 1st all day when the blinds are this high. Flop was good for me, 2 spades and a 6.. but a K and no running spade shipped the pot over to the caller... Oh well, I wouldn't change anything.
